I am back from attending a couple of conventions. I thought I'd share
some of the experiences.
I first went to Creation's 5-day Star Trek Convention in Vegas. Although
now they have actors from other shows. It's a bit of a blur now. Some highlights I still remember include meeting Peter Weller for the first
time. I was very happy to get my RoboCop and Buckaroo Banzai posters autographed. James Cromwell was there signing as well. His signing was completely mismanaged. His line was massive and instead of having him
sign in an organized row by row or by ticket number in the main hall,
they had him in the vendor's room. His singing went late into the
evening but fortunately he stayed until everyone got their autograph.
Then they pulled the same nonsense with Scott Bakula, once again putting
him in the vendor's room instead of the main hall. But the highlight
for me was probably getting to meet Nicholas Meyer who directed "Time
after Time," "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country." Unfortunately for me, he had 2 different panels
and I missed both of them.
As far as any news there wasn't any. For the time being this is it for
Star Trek. We have a season of Discovery already in the can and a
season of Star Fleet Academy already in the can. Once those air, that's
it. At least for now.
I generally had a good time, but I think this will be my last trip to
Vegas. There are several reasons but one of the main reasons is I just
hate the drive to Vegas. The temperature hit 119 degrees at one point
on the drive down. And it's not like it was all that much cooler once I
got there. I'm done with Vegas.
After Vegas I drove to Anaheim for the D23 Expo. This is held every 2
years and is a convention for all things Disney, including Star Wars, Marvel, Fox, etc. It's sort of like San Diego Comic Con (Not that I've
ever been to San Diego Comic Con). The convention is sort of divided
into 2 parts over 3 days.
One part of the convention is held in the Anaheim Convention center.
They have a show floor with lots of attractions to see and they hold panels.

I was not able to attend many panels at the Convention center. But one panel I did attend was one on "Bedknobs and Broomsticks." It was an interesting panel, and I was surprised by how much I learned about the making of the movie.
Some sick twisted soul scheduled a panel for Alan Menken where he talked about writing music for Disney and playing his songs at the same time as
the Bedknobs and Broomsticks panel. Not that it mattered, I didn't have
a ticket to it, and I knew there would be no point in even trying to get
to the standby line, so I went to the Bedknobs and Broomsticks panel
which was actually pretty empty. Because everyone was at the Menken panel!

Speaking of things I did not get to attend, there was also a D23 Day at Disneyland where they had a concert of the living Disney princesses. It
was a free concert; you just needed to reserve a spot at 12:00. I had
my finger over the button at 11:59 waiting for 12:00, and the second
12:00 hit I pushed the button and they were already sold out. :-/

The other part of the convention was panels at the Honda Center. It required a separate ticket to enter, and I was one of the lucky few who
had seats all three days.
The first day was the Entertainment Showcase where Disney talked about
and showed previews of their upcoming projects. Some highlights

The second day of the Honda Center was the parks panel where they
discussed all the upcoming things happening at the various parks, cruise ships, etc. There have been a lot of complaints about the Disneyland announcements being botched, which is more or less true. But they did confirm several new attractions coming to California Adventure and they
are going to finally update Tomorrowland at Disneyland. I've been a bit more mellow about the botched announcements and will take a wait and see approach. One of the weird things people have been commenting on is
they had a model of the upcoming Pandora on the show floor, but it was
only mentioned in passing at the parks panel. People (myself included)
were expecting a full presentation. Anyway, here's a picture of the

Day three of the Honda Center was the legends ceremony where Disney
inducts people as "legends." By far the highlight for me was the

Strange new worlds has gotten so bad it's like they're making a parody of star trek. This latest episode turned them all in to friggin muppets, literally. They haven't had a good episode yet this season. It's like they started a contest to see which writer could write the stupidest thing imaginable to get people to tune out.
