It's amazing that three different live-action shows have such a

I also started Scream Queens, a sort of dramedy satire of horror
movies. Horror tropes are mashed together in a sorority setting.
There are a lot of characters, but most are comically exaggerated
types who are easy to keep straight.
Scream Queens isn't trying to be consistent or make sense. It's
mostly just comedy and craziness, so I can see why it wasn't on
long, but a small dose has been a lot of fun.

That's already baked in.
Shows crank out bad episodes. That's just life. But if before the

it has puppets, subtitles, black and white, or whatever else, then
that's not judging the quality of the actual episode.

I guess I don't see it as really being a thing. Of the 10s of thousands
of hours of television I've watched, I can probably count on one hand
the number of puppet episodes I've watched. I've probably seen more timeloop episodes on TV than puppet episodes.
I do get your concern about leaning on a gimmick. But that's true
whether puppets or not. I think it's just bad writing. You can totally
do a bad puppet episode. But the problem isn't the existence of the
puppet, the problem is the writing. I have zero issue with someone
watching the episode and not liking it. I took issue that 100% of the complaints were being launched before the episode aired. No one

That's interesting. I never heard anything good about it.
At the time, I was recapping Angel episodes for a web forum. IIRC
one of my comments for this one was "After last week I thought
they were finally going somewhere, and then they give me this
crap."
Someone else I knew saw that episode and gave up on the show.
She'd tuned back in based on my assessment that the Illyria arc
was improving the show, and the puppet episode made her tune out
again.
I think the reason many dislike these is not that we hate puppets
but that it's difficult to explain how someone turns into a
puppet in a non-stupid manner. I don't remember Angel's gimmick
at this point, but I remember feeling disgusted.

In "Angel", it was a Demonoic spell, which makes sense within the
show's logic.

I was just thinking about timeloop episodes. As far as I know,
Groundhog Day invented the trope of repeating a day until the
protagonist gets it right. No gods or other controlling forces are ever seen; it just happens.
There've been a lot of them since. Xena's "Been There; Done That" was excellent. American Dad's "Yule. Tide. Repeat" is also good.
At this point, it's been around long enough that we should start to see variations. The only variant I can think of is from Fantasy Island
(2021), where *two* people both had to get the day right and their
needs seemed to conflict until it was solved.
I haven't yet seen any reversals -- say, someone has to be evil enough
or extract enough revenge to win the day. I also haven't seen any
fakeouts, where some villain went to a lot of trouble to create the
illusion of a repeating day. I might also expect subversions, where
someone thinks he has to get the day right but it's really all about
someone else. Maybe we just need a little more time.
Has anyone else seen variants? How about other good (or unusually bad) examples?

But the idea pre-dates that by at least 11 years with the first 'time

If you say so. I thought it was an eye-roller. Maybe next they
could all go on a game show because a demon made them.
