Looks like you'll need to route through H-town.I want fried chicken bone-in. Boneless, skinless breast doesn't
appeal to me. The prices for fried chicken are usually absurd. I
think I can do without for 6-7 weeks, but if I do get fried chicken,
it is Popeyes spicy bone-in. They have a "build your own bundle" for
$20. That can include 9 pieces of chicken and 2 small sides. Compare
that to any of the others.
I seldom cook chicken anymore. I can get a great, pre-cooked one for
$5 at Costco, and the breast meat can be repurposed. There are plenty
of Costcos in Austin and Houston, and there are parks with grills
where I can grill pork and beef over charcoal/wood. The whole point
about being down there is to be able to be comfortable outdoors in
February. I *really* love where I live in the Spring and Fall. What I
hate is cold and snow. I'm not crazy about the 110+F heat index days
either, but for several reasons we typically don't leave for more
than 2-3 weeks at a time during Summer, if even that.

Logical premise.
But I'd look to bottom line first.
I can't discern an actual change in taste in the past 10 years, their
hot chicken is still uniquely great, the regular remain as it was.
But the small pieces gripe is a thing, and you really notice it in the
wings which are quite tiny now.
Their Cajun gravy is the unmatched king of sides, far superior to

be welcome. I just grilled 1/3# chuck burgers in 118.7 heat index
(107.9 temp, 70.7 dewpoint). $4 worth of ground chuck, $1.39 8 pack
of buns, maybe 25 cents of condiments, maybe 50 cents of potato chips
and $1 worth of charcoal. Less than $7 for 2 meals, and better
burgers than what I'd expect from a restaurant. With a good tip, that
meal would have been 4 times that price. Say we were out of town,
like Houston, and grilling at a park, and let's say I had to pay $9 a
pound for the ground beef, and the potato chips were twice the price,
and I'm still under $10.
Right now, at H?E?B, USDA Prime Beef New York Strip Bonel
$17.99 a pound. It would be significantly cheaper to grill those
steaks than to get hamburgers, or just about anything else, at a sit
down restaurant, and as cheap as getting takeout fried chicken.

Right now, at H?E?B, USDA Prime Beef New York Strip Boneless Steak is
$17.99 a pound. It would be significantly cheaper to grill those

The mashed potatoes were pretty good. I'm not sure how it's made since there appears to be tiny pieces of potatoes mixed in. That gives them a made from whole potatoes vibe. That's probably not practical. The gravy on the potatoes is pretty tasty with a garlic/cumin taste to it. What's not to like?

I looked at fried chicken restaurant options yesterday and by far the most prevalent choice was tenders and nuggets and boneless wings. The Popeyes mashed potatoes I had the other day had no more lumps in it than whipped cream and you couldn?t get it without Cajun gravy.

Chicken restaurants are kind of depressing. Well, that's the way it
seems in our town. Since Popeyes opened up, we have 2X the options
for depression. I like the Cajun gravy though. In the new world,

The Popeyes bone-in spicy is sublime. The Cajun gravy is too. I never
buy the crappy potatoes, just the gravy. The Popeyes in Hawaii is 50%
more expensive. The sides of Cajun gravy are $1.49 instead of 99 cents,
and the build your own bundles are $30 instead of $20. The bundle is the
way to go. 9 pieces of bone-in spicy plus two sides for $30, and add a
few extra Cajun gravies. The good sides are red beans & rice, and Cajun fries. Make sure to ask for some packets of Cajun Sparkle.

Summer, if even that.
Boston Market used to be where I went to for (not-fried) chicken,
but they wenbt in decline after you could get them cheaper at
Costco.
Kenny Rogers Roasters should have eaten their lunch - a far better operation with killer good cornbread too.
Now they're only open in Oceania and the ME.
International Success: Malaysia's Berjaya Corporation acquired the
brand, allowing it to thrive and expand across Asia and the Middle
East
We had a Kenny Rogers roasters a short walk from my office. I loved
the place. But it?s problem at least for me was that nobody who
worked there spoke even rudimentary English. They had the menu
flattened out and under glass as the countertop and you had to point
to order. Unfortunately, the ribs were only up on the board above
their heads and you couldn?t point to it so you couldn?t
at all. It didn?t last long.
