That's the joke about God's profession as creator of personkind. An
artist? (the beauty of it all!) An architect? (monumental!) A civil
engineer of course: who else is capable of laying the waste disposal
systems through and along the leisure/pleasure areas?
Have you read Neal Stepheson's cyberpunk novels 'Snow Crash' and 'Cryptonomicon'?
In there human agents don headgear and penetrate enemy
cyber-defences, a bit like (virtual) fighter pilots navigating a war
zone. Considering the novels were written in the 1990s - well before
current AI developments - they are quite visionary.

Well, there's Dunning and Kruger.
What's more dangerous: artificial intelligence or genuine human
irrationality?
It's hard to tell, because at present we are faced with a combination of
the two. There is an urgent need to equip AIs with something equivalent
to the first two laws of robotics, but people who want to put in
safeguards are being blocked by an incredibly stupid US president.
Hmm, for once I find myself in agreement with the Drumph.
To be clear, he is not blocking safeguards. He is saying slowing done AI >development is not a good idea. He is correct in saying that, because if
the competition (China, Russia) does not conform to those guidelines,
they will end up with far more potent and aggressive AIs than those of
OpenAI and Anthropic.

Multiple times.

As a great Stephenson fan, I have to ask, aren't you getting your
cyberpunks mixed up? That kind of virtual space hacking was the
central concept of William Gibson's 1984 'Neuromancer'. Both of
Sephenson's novels are very different.
[ Nod to r.a.tv: Wikipedia says there's a tv series based on
[ Neuromancer due to premiere in January.

It already has. There are plenty of positive contributions of AI around. <https://cacm.acm.org/news/scientific-applications-of-generative-ai/>
If you want more specifics, look at AlfaFold 2.
"Demis Hassabis was awarded the Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking work
in protein structure prediction. This research utilized artificial intelligence models, particularly AlphaFold2, to predict the complex structures of proteins, which are essential for understanding biological processes."
The reason for your exasperation is that most of the journalistic
coverage you read about is the negative stuff; fake videos & photos;
made up scientific papers with fake references; Fake news; etc.
The good stuff takes longer to develop. And it is not very sensational.
The reason why most journalist like to criticize AI is because they
feel threatened by it. AI is capable of doing what they do - only
better, quicker and cheaper.

You don't know how to do something the A.I. cannot? I mean, it's not
hard to find the gaps in its knowledege. My go-to problem is /trans- actional file system/.
Ask the A.I. to make one for you. You'll quickly find the gaps, and
will have to teach it the details. Which is a waste of time, because
it forgets everything as soon as its window of context is too large.
Best wishes, and happy doing something the A.I. cannot!

Didn't Jack Reacher get into trouble over some fentanyl adventure or
other in one of his books? I admit ignorance, because I never watched
his movies, nor finished the T.V. show.
I'm sure the A.I. can tell you exactly which book, but then you have to
read it yourself if you want to have a manly male hero solve some crime
or other, and enjoy the story. A /summary/ is not the story, and you
won't enjoy it if you don't read it yourself. Which the A.I. cannot do
for you [1].
Of course, if you only care about consuming the fentanyl yourself, then
you probably haven't seen any of the Jack Reacher movies, nor the T.V.
show, nor read any of his books. And what does that make you, who claim
to be /super intelligent/?
[1] I'm not counting text-to-speech here as an application of A.I. since
you can just use C.M.U. Flite,
http://cmuflite.org/
and please don't mind the lack of S.S.L., locally and don't need to pay
an A.I. to do this for you. I mean, you /do/ pay for the ChatGPT tokens yourself, right?
I hope the downloads still work, I didn't check.

Can you clean gutters? My roof gutters need cleaning.
And what does that make you, who claim to be /super intelligent/?

Trump started this super intelligent business. "Super intelligent" means "exactly as smart as Trump", i.e. as thick as two short planks. Which
makes me wonder why you bother reply to the idiot. You're only bypassing
our kill files.
Of course, if you only care about consuming the fentanyl yourself, then
you probably haven't seen any of the Jack Reacher movies, nor the T.V.
show, nor read any of his books. And what does that make you, who claim
to be/super intelligent/?
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on September 29, 2026, officially renaming "Artificial Intelligence" (AI) to
"Super Intelligence" (SI) across all U.S. federal executive branch
agencies.
I never claimed to be super intelligent...
and I never read a Fiction book in my life!

Sorry about that. I guess I was slightly bored. I'll try not to reply
to /the idiot/ much more.

Mine too. :-)

Thanks for the reminder. Bush fire season is starting early this year,
and promises to be worse than ever before.
At least weather patterns leak only slowly across the equator. Canada
and Europe have paid heavily for Trump's failure to slow down climate
change. The main risk to us comes from El Ni¤o and data centres.

It already has. There are plenty of positive contributions of AI around. >>> <https://cacm.acm.org/news/scientific-applications-of-generative-ai/>
If you want more specifics, look at AlfaFold 2.
"Demis Hassabis was awarded the Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking work >>> in protein structure prediction. This research utilized artificial
intelligence models, particularly AlphaFold2, to predict the complex

The reason for your exasperation is that most of the journalistic
coverage you read about is the negative stuff; fake videos & photos;
made up scientific papers with fake references; Fake news; etc.
The good stuff takes longer to develop. And it is not very sensational. >>> The reason why most journalist like to criticize? AI is because they
feel threatened by it. AI is capable of doing what they do - only
better, quicker and cheaper.

====================================
Use your head.
As previously discussed here in alt.usage.english, the /head/ is a loo
on a naval ship. And I lack one of those. You're free to use the head
in your very own naval ship, of course; I presume you paid for it out of
your own pocket, after all.
Now, If you pay attention to the /context/, I was asking occam what hap-
pens when a human needs to do something the A.I. cannot? Because if I
read this correctly, occam is trying to claim that the A.I. can just do everything, given the right prompts.
I disagree. And I disagree so vehemently, I bought myself a bookshelf
of cryptographic books, and another of compiler literature. You can see
the pictures on my BlueSky account, linked below.
So, squalk, how much do you put your money where your mouth is, and can
you show us pictures of the library you presumably have in your very own naval ship? In other words, how much do you use your own /head/?

It has been claimed that data centres already do far more damage to
the environment than cow farts.
This reminds me of when our son was a student at the University of
Alabama. We went up there on Parent's Day, when the father was there
of one of my son's fraternity brothers. The son was a graduate
student in one of the sciences. He was involved in a study of methane-from-cows.
When he told his father (A "good ole boy" from Southern Alabama) about
his work, the father exploded "Goddammit, Son! I'm going into debt to
keep you in college and you're out there collecting cow farts? We got
cows at home, and you can hold a cup to their ass for free!".
