My usual comments apply about support fir illiberal laws.
There is no "Left" vs. "Right" here. Attempts to control the thoughts
and behavior of others, whether the religious motivation is stated or
can be inferred, or because "We don't approve," has never broken down
neatly. I do not agree with those who claim it does.
One obvious example from college campuses, oh, two or three decades
ago, were older, more traditional Marxist professors (your former '60s
radicals spouting Marxism) whose ideas were not currently in favor and
were in conflict with much younger students and faculty with different interpretations of Socialism and Communism. When they lost speaking engagements, they joined libertarians who also were denied speaking
engagements in arguing for academic freedom.
Labour is actually up in the polls too while the Greens are losing a lot
of ground as their current leader, Zach Polansky, further beclowns
himself. The Right is divided between Conservative, Reform and Restore
so some of the pundits - and even Burnham himself - have raised the >possibility of a snap election which Labour might well win, although
almost certainly only with a minority, meaning they'd have to rule in a >coalition with the Liberal-Democrats, a party no one actually seems to
take seriously.
In that case, even if there is a "right" alliance (not sure whobthe
Torries are at the moment), they will not campaign on repealing these
illiberal laws, because there isn't sufficient voter support.
Labour is working hard on bringing yet more Muslims to Britain,
particularly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and "Palestine". What could >possibly go wrong?
I still fault the voters for not throwing the bastards out of office.
