News Release
From: The Amateur Radio Club W0QQQ at Kansas State University
The amateur radio club at Kansas State University will take part in the
K-State Radio Centennial: A Century of Sound and Service commemoration of one-hundred years of broadcasting with a special event station from September
8 through September 15. The club will operate from the campus using the
amateur radio special event call sign K0S. The special event call sign has
been issued by the Federal Communications Commission specifically for this commemorative occasion to promote Kansas State University and its history of one-hundred years of broadcasting.
The amateur radio club will be using the club station facilities, located on the fourth floor of Seaton Hall, during the week to contact domestic and international amateur radio operators. The club plans to set up a remote station at the base of the original broadcast towers, found next to Nichols Hall, for the Celebration of the Towers events on September 13.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by during station operation, at the Seaton
Hall club station during the week and at the remote station location to learn more about amateur radio. While under the supervision of licensed operators visitors will have the opportunity to get on the air and contact other
amateur radio operators.
The amateur radio club at Kansas State University shares a lengthy history
too. The amateur radio club, under the call sign W0QQQ, has been in operation since 1927.
