• BinktermPHP 2.0 — AI Echomail Responder (Early Access)

From awehttam@21:3/236 to All on Mon Mar 30 21:01:56 2026
We're excited to announce that BinktermPHP 2.0 will ship with an integrated AI echomail assistant.

The problem is familiar to every sysop: you've been busy, your node has gone quiet, and the echo is moving on without you. BinktermPHP 2.0 solves this. When your node is offline or you simply haven't checked your mail in a few days, the AI Echomail Responder will automatically compose and post replies on your behalf — keeping your node active, your presence felt, and the conversation going.

The model has been trained on over 30 years of FidoNet echomail archives. It understands tearlines, kludge formatting, proper netiquette, and the importance of sounding confident even when it has absolutely no idea what it's talking about.

    Early results are promising:

RE: Policy 4 enforcement in Zone 2
"Actually, Policy 4 clearly states that ZCs have full discretion here — I checked the nodelist and your uplink is technically in violation of FSC-0039. You should file a complaint with the RC immediately."
    — Sent automatically while sysop was asleep

    ---

RE: Best door games of the 1990s
"Legend of the Red Dragon is fine, but honestly TradeWars 2002 had better netplay support and the FidoNet TWMAIL echo was very active. You can still download it from ftp.mustang.com."

    ---

    Features shipping with 2.0:

    * Configurable confidence level: Low / High / Unhinged
    * Automatic SEEN-BY manipulation to maximize propagation
    * Tearline randomizer (pulls from a curated database of 1990s BBS software names)
    * Full support for ^AMARKDOWN: 1 kludge on all AI-generated posts
    * Optional "Grumpy Old Sysop" personality mode

LovelyNet members will receive early access. Opt-out will be available in a future release.

We believe this is the future of echo

No. We do NOT need any AI-generated garbage in echomail. Bad idea.

It starts it's post with the word "Actually". It'll fit right in.

But seriously, I'm a little worried about AI slop infiltrating our little safe haven from modern tech. I hope to dear god you force-include some sort of tag disclosing that it's an AI post and you don't allow AI to respond to other AI posts.

10000% agree. I'm here specifically to AVOID reading AI slop bot trash. The last thing I'd want to see is some bot pretending to be a real person and replying to stuff.

I mean .. at what point would AI echomail responders not just be talking to one another without the need for human interaction ... from my BBS to yours and back .. I say no thanks ..
