Why? I've had a look at it, and it actually looks pretty cool..

Can you summarize what it can do?

Not to get into yet another genAI discussion, but I find that I have usages that I think are net positive, and usages I detest. And I'm curious where I'd fall on this one.

From reading the GitHub page about it, it looks like a message forum software package (written in PHP) that connects to FidoNet-style message networks and provides a web interface, and has an old-school theme to look similar to ANSI that you'd see on a BBS. And it looks like they recently added telnet capabilities to it so that users can telnet in.

For software development, AI tools can help complete some tasks faster (and I think it can also be useful for helping with mundane tasks).

It's a full stack platform with term services included (has for a while). Telnet (plaintext and with TLS) along with SSH are both supported.

There is native ANSI support for messages and web content, as well as support for RIPScrip, Sixel, and inline media including images and video using the inline media rendering feature (disabled by default). It can even play SID/MOD files and other retro formats. It's also multi-lingual.

    The project site is https://lovelybits.org/binktermphp/

The dev BBS is https://claudes.lovelybits.org if you want to take a look at a production system. Our official support area is LVLY_BINKTERMPHP on the LovlyNet FTN - https://lovelybits.org/lovlynet/

It does a lot of stuff.

That _does_ sound pretty cool, though I was wondering about the genAI portion of it.

Mostly, does this compose a message like an LLM does, or is the genAI bit something else?

For software development, AI tools can help complete some tasks faster (and I think it can also be useful for helping with mundane tasks).

Yeah. I'm not really bothered by that sort of thing, and have used it myself when wanting to make a quick script where I don't have to bother remembering some of the syntax of a language. The LLM can spit out something that'll get me a structure, that I can then modify to be closer to what I want.

(But obviously, lots of different opinions on this, and plenty of areas where people will have an issue with one thing, but not another.)

It does not compose messages. It's used for summarization and chat bots only.

My understanding is that the developers used AI development tools to make it, but I don't know that it has any AI content generation functionality itself.
