So, uhm, what's the state of linux phones these days? ... I honestly do
not want to switch to another platform in the near future.

Short term solution is jumping to GrapheneOS. It is an Android-based
system that works without any google components whatsoever (that is not their selling point but it is a feature it has). If you need Google material you can install it inside of a sandbox.

"If you want to protect and de-Google your smartphone while still enjoying the customizability of Android, GrapheneOS can be a smart choice. Unfortunately, it's only available on a select few devices, so you can't install it on just any phone.

"GrapheneOS only works on Pixel devices for now and cannot be installed on other phones through standard methods like Generic System Images (GSI). There's no official support or dedicated GrapheneOS builds for any other brands or models, so you'll need a Pixel to run it.

Moto did announce that they're pasrtnering with Graphene, it'll be
interesting to see how that turns out. I have a soft spot for Moto, as
they have decent mid-range phones and still offer headphone jacks and
    SD card slots.

Although, I don't think I've used wired headphones in a while. I used
to hate bluetooth earbuds but found a set I like - the Tozo NC2. Good
noise reduction, they fit well, good sound and they're around $30.

Maybe I could be OK without the jack. In a pinch, I've seen a USBC to
    headphone jack audio adapter...
