Almost did, I saw an acrylic case for board called a Zoomfloppy which allows you to hook a Commodore 1541 drive up to a PC and image disks from it, the case was like $22 with shipping it brought it up to $34 then tariff charges brought it up to like $73!!!! Please for a couple of pieces of plastic!! Jeez. I know someone who ordered a label for their computer, the label was like $5 when all was said and done, it cost the guy $75!! When the shipper was questioned about it, his answer was thank that asshole president of yours! Not getting political, just repeating what he was told!

I can highly recomend the Zoomfloppy. I don't have a case for mine, but honestly it's a tool you will use a few times right away and place it in a box on a shelf for a while. I don't think it requires a case. (Just if you were thinking of buying one)

I think the EU (or at least Germany) still has a de minimus exemption when the total value (cost plus shipping) is under 150 EUR.

And, yeah, the US _used_ to have a $800 de minimus, but that got taken away by presidential decree.

I'm still not sure what I'd want, since a lot of things wind up being end runs around customs, for good or ill (and won't really discuss my thoughts beyond the facts because that _should_ be political).

But, regardless, your examples are ridiculous and it's annoying on a day-to-day basis of not really having a clue on what something will cost.

I have one, I have used it quite a bit since I got it back in 2018, but to be honest, I use the Greaseweazle more, mainly because I don't want to destroy my last 1541 drive. I had 2 of them, one I left on overnight and a chip burnt out, so now this one I use sparingly. I built a box with Debian 13 on it, and a Windows 11 VM since I prefer using a GUI with the Zoomfloppy. Works great. On the D13 side I wrote a couple of scripts now that all I have to do is type gw1541, gw1581, or gwamiga and the greaseweazle will created Images of all 3 types of disks.. When it comes to flippy disks, I took a blank disk, took the disk out of it, and now use it as a template to hole punch a hole for the sensor to read the disk. A silver marker on the hole, the hole punch punches a perfect hole and I can copy all of my C64 disks.. Makes life so much easier!

Agreed!! I used to buy phone batteries from China back in the day, I would get the battery, and a wall charger for like 10 cents, shipping would be $10 so a battery and charger for $10 was well worth the 2 week wait for it. I can only imagine now what the cost of that same setup would be!

    I have a 1541, 1541c and a 1571. I mostly use the 1571 as it's the
one that is handy. LOL The zoomfloppy for me was a purchase to save
an old floppy I had. I'll keep plugging away with my projects but
the older I get the less time I seem to have. ;)

    Laser Etchers / 3D Printers

In the USA, FedEx / UPS / DHL have made it known that if they receive 'refunds' from the government, they will be passing that on to their customers. (which they should as we all know WE are the ones paying the tariffs, not the companies.)

I have gathered my receipts showing how much I was charged in tariffs to submit for a 'refund' as an end-user hobbyist.

US customers/Companies pay the tariff for merchandises that come to the USA. The same thing to EU customers/Companies who buy outside Europe.
So, DHL, UPS, ... tariff refunds is US$ money.

... Be alert. America needs more lerts.

I hear you. I don't even want to say what I had back in the day if I didn't give it all away! Now I just have this non-working 1541, a Lt Kernal Clone, 2 c64's, and an Ultimate64.. Been actually using the U64 more since Gideon fixed the swiftlink. I am one of the writers of Image BBS v3.0 and just finished making it fully compatible with the built in Turbo Mode. Everything else runs fine.. Like you said though as I get older I have less and less time to do anything, I have a to do list for Image that is as long as my arm, and after updating and rebuilding my server, NAS units, and a couple of PC's I think this coming 3 day weekend if I don't go donate money to the Indian casino I just might be able to work on the Image some..
