• Empty Message Area

From Slinky@21:4/185 to all on Sat Mar 18 00:43:45 2023

Why is this message area empty? Admittedly, I joined fsxNet recently, but I would have figured this message group would have more activity. Talisman has a lot of potential, just no SysOp documents to help a Talisman newbie. I was hoping to look here for guidance.

I've got 206 messages dating as far back as of June, 2022. If you do a "rescan" with an areafix netmail, you'll get as a default, 250 messages. Using that, you "may" get what you're looking for.

The echo comes and goes in waves. Mostly depending on Apam's tine and
interest in coding Talisman. I don't want to speak for him, but if you
do a rescan we all told him to take as many breaks as required to not
    burn out on this project.

If you have any specific questions I've been running it since pretty
much day one and I will do my best to answer your question. I know
apam is lurking and I'm pretty sure he will chime in as well.

I dunno if this is the info you're missing, but this is the [Talisman BBS Support/Dev].

Talisman is a BBS software developed by a member of the bbS community named APAM.

I'm just posting this cause sometimes a new area will get added to an FTN and I don't know the name of it; thought maybe thats what happened to you. :P

    Have you seen https://talismanbbs.com/

? I know it's a little out of date, but it should help you get up and
    running.

I do check this base most days, it's been quiet because I haven't done
any updates lately, and very few people run talisman.

I should actually do an update to the Win32 release as there is an update
from BUGZ about SSH (notably, nodes were getting stuck with SSH port
    scanners.)

I think everyone on linux uses git though. I'll send you a new
talisman.exe if you like, as I don't have something set up right now to
    compile a release.

Thank you, I have that bookmarked now. It's also good to see there's support, and it's just been quiet for a bit.

All because my Talisman board was getting 3 of it's 4 nodes tied up, so I was writting a external program to monitor Talisman's logs to see if I couldn't ip block some of them (by using ip block tables and inotify which watches a file when it's updated my code runs).

Yup, linux here, git is simple... when it is.

Yes, that bug has been around a while, it was most noticable on Alpha
Complex with 7-8 nodes busy by.. no one. It was very frustrating, and I couldn't work out the problem, so am very grateful for the fix.

He's nearly crawling, that's going to be scary when that happens. He's
been trying so hard, and the other kids his age at swimming are crawling already, but he's not quiet got there yet - but it won't be long.
