My mum/mom passed away a few weeks ago and because of that I've been busy in the lead up to her death supporting my dad and then juggling a funeral etc.
Hi folks
I have not been very active over the last 6-8 weeks and my apologies
for the lack of replies etc.

Any who that's the latest... I haven't completely dropped off the face of the earth but I have been juggling family and work a lot more these past few months.

I plan to start to circle back to BBSing and catch up (slowly) on my network admin, echomail, netmail etc.
If you're reading this and had emailed me to apply for a node number and not heard back in recent times, I'm sorry but it's family stuff that
comes first and I hope you understand.
Mum's death was not unexpected, she had been suffering from dementia for the last few years and it had been a long slow goodbye with an uncertain end date... nothing I'd wish on anyone.

I hope this finds you well, and as always thanks for being part of the fsxNet community.

You take all the time you need. Screw those new sysops trying to get on fsx. They'll be there when you come back round... the important part is that you will, Paul.

Sorry to hear that Avon, consolences and best wishes.
Good vibes headed your way from this part of the world.
I'm sorry about your mum, that's tough.
Hope you're doing ok, and glad to hear from you.
Very sorry to hear that, Avon. My best thoughts and wishes to you and your family.
You always put community over self. While I understand, please take the moments that you deserve - and know that this community will be right
here standing with you when you're able to come back and pay attention. Sorry, Paul. I feel you.
I'm very sorry to hear that, Paul. :(
My deepest condolences to you.
Very sorry to hear that, my condolences and wishing you strength and comfort through these difficult times.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. My deepest
condolences.
Very sorry for your loss.
My condolences on your loss. I figured as such when you said you'd be
gone for a while and I hoped for the best. Moms can be hard, most
sorry for your loss Paul! take your time!
I'm really sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and your family. :(
Prayers and thoughts with you all, Paul. Being there, dealing with
We all are thinking of your family and of you, and much appreciate that you've shared with us.
My condolences. Dementia is something we've not had to deal with yet
but, as my parents are both around 80 I worry about it.
Take your time. We'll all still be here when you return.
Thanks for all you do.
My prayers and thoughts to you and your family. My mother-in-law is in late stage dementia, I know what you've been going through.
Thanks Andrew, we're on the mend, starting to circle back to my hobbies
now.
Hi all
Where to begin.
Life has been busy, ............cut............
If you're an 'old timer' or just new to the network, thanks for your interest and involvement in it. It's great the between us all we're helping to keep the BBS scene / hobby etc. alive and well in 2025... who would have thought huh? :)
Thank you for getting my node sorted, although I am new to the net,
though I'm not new to the technology, so if you need a hand with any
admin stuff feel free to reach out.
Please take all the time you need to recharge your batteries. You have set up a network that will continue to grow, both in numbers and in spirit. Return when you are ready. We will be here.
Thanks for all you do!
The InterBBS league will be shut down on Friday 11 June 2025... that's
two weeks from the date I write this. I think this should be enough notice.
2) Usenet Gateway. Ditto for this service (sorry). I am going to shutter this one also and close down my Usenet news server. The gateway will
also cease on Friday 11 June 2025 while the NNTP server will shutter at the end of July.
Where to begin.
Life has been busy, I've been dealing with the loss of my mum who passed late last year and helping my dad with his efforts to de-clutter / prep
my childhood home for upcoming sale. That's involved a lot of air travel and time away from home/work to help out. All of which I have been happy to do but it's also zapped any other energy I have had for hobbies.
As I write this it's increasingly likely that I'll also have some fairly significant life changes of my own in the coming months and my family
may well be moving houses.
If/when this happens I expect to keep active in fsxNet and continue to
run NET 1 HUB etc. as per usual but I am opting for the coming 12-18 months to simplify things for me in this regard.
So I wanted to let you know a few changes coming up and my plans for the medium term.
1) InterBBS games. I'm going to close this down for now, BRE, FH and GD.
I think there is limited activity going on between just a few systems
and want to reduce the systems I am running if/when a move to a new
house occurs.

I want to reinstate this down the track, but at this stage I'm signaling it will likely be 12-18 months after the close down.
3) NET 1 + 4 HUBS my plan is to move to using an instance of Clrghouz to service these nodes. That change will take some more time for me to implement as I am time poor and likely juggling prepping a house for possible sale / moving home over the coming 6-9 months. But the goal
will be to use Deon's great software to make my life easier as ZC of fsxNet.
What else..
I'm sorry for the lack of activity / service on my part over the last months. At times coming back and trying to do admin for a pile of
mounting emails etc. felt too much and my energy levels where just not there.
Today I am playing catch up and adding a bunch of nodes that may (or may not) be that active since the dates they emailed me to join but let's
find out.
Did you know on 8 November this year fsxNet will have been around for 10 years? That kind of does my head in :) When I set it up it was just me having fun and wanting to learn about FTN networking etc. Nick at
Agoranet was always super kind/supportive with his time and knowledge
(as were many others).
I've been lucky to have met many super, kind and talented people through the BBS hobby/interest we collectively share... and I'm looking forward
to continuing to do that into the years ahead...
All of which to say is that I am not planning on leaving the scene or shuttering fsxNet any time soon. But I will be busy/tied up with matters of real life (sigh) as the rest of this year and into early next year unfolds.
If you're an 'old timer' or just new to the network, thanks for your interest and involvement in it. It's great the between us all we're helping to keep the BBS scene / hobby etc. alive and well in 2025... who would have thought huh? :)
Best, Paul aka Avon
