• LOW END gaming

I think I might have to suffice on console gaming. I burned 1300 on a mac so getting a new Windows desktop is out of the question for the next year.

There are a ton of videos online about making low-end gaming systems,
most under $200. Seems like the i7-4790, for example, is popular - 4 ghz
max clock speed, 4 cores, 8 threads. Uses lots of power though - but
they're available for cheap in old Dells. I have one in a Dell Optiplex
in my garage I've been meaning to set up for just that.

the majority of his videos seem to be "running games on clunkers"

you can do a surprising amount with very little nowadays

I have one right now. its a 5700x ryzen with a 1070 gpu on a 350 amd montherboard

If I wanted to save money for 3 years I would:

Get a 850 watt power supply
    550 series mother board
    4070 or 5070 gpu
    new windows licence
    2tb ssd
    32gb slightly speedy ram

i have the same cpu, but with X570 mobo & Radeon 6800 XT .. you have a lot of headroom there.. then again if you're replacing all but the CPU.. seems like you'd be better off selling it and getting a 7700 or something (better upgrade path than 5700x->5800x3d and then done forever.. currently in a spot where 5700x might net you $100 on ebay and a 7700 might dip to 180 or so)

looks like a 6700 XT can be had under $300

Get a 850 watt power supply

go big! what if you end up with a used 4090 in 10 years or something

    550 series mother board

    yeah.. needs pcie gen 4..

    4070 or 5070 gpu

    *shrug* i'm cheap..

    new windows licence

if you give in and create an account in windows 11 it's *very* likely logging in to windows 11 on the newer motherboard will just work (activate) regardless of hardware. worth a shot since if it doesn't, you're not waiting on shipping of a cardboard box with a cd

    2tb ssd
    32gb slightly speedy ram

hopefully by ssd you meant nvme ssd :D

i duno, *glances at the topic* whoops
