• Cool Things To Run On Win

³ Also tried to get a web browser working, the best I've managed is to use
³ the oldest version of mosaic I could find. That sort of works, but crashes
³ on any websites that have graphics of any sort.. other more modern browsers
³ Netcapte ect just wont run or wont install.
    ³
³ So got any suggestions? Anything you've tried out that works?

I have not tried this out on a 286 so I am not sure if it will work, and
also it is a DOS program instead of Windows-native, but you *might* be able
to get Arachne web browser to work on a 286.

Again I never tried it on a 286. I only know that it worked on a 386.

It has been years since I tried it and I am pretty sure there are modern websites it would have trouble with but I don't remember it ever crashing
on those... it just wouldn't load them correctly.

    Hey Mike,

Arachne definately works on a 286 & with Frogfind.com you can browse some modern website providing they are very simple, you just have to use the correct build of Arachne. There is a non protected mode build that will run on 8086 & 286 class hardware, whereas the other build needs 386 or better.

I tried it on NEC V20 (8088 clone thats a bit faster) & it's incredibly slow to the point of being unusable. On a 286 its just really slow though, on
simple website with few graphics it's kinda usable... if you are patient person.
