I gave in some time back.

The holiday specials were good, I quite liked the war doctor one but it just got to be too much stuff and felt like a little too much pandering for me.

I grew up with Tom Baker too, so we had a board game and I can remember my cousin had some question mark lapel pins. People would try and make the K9 dog but I don't know it just feels like there came a point of jumping the shark with it as regeneration became a forever thing.

I'm not hating it... The Musical Epsiode was pretty fun. I need a few more episodes before I start worrying about it too much.

It's been disappointing since they moved away from David Tennant and Matt Smith.

Yes, but only in the sense that we no longer receive it here without a streaming service that I do not have.

I was looking forward to seeing David Tennant again. ;)

The previous seasons, which I did receive, were also disappointing. They
made a big deal of having a female doctor and even, IMHO, picked a decent actress but the scripts for most of the episodes were rubish. Plus they
went through and retconned a bunch of stuff that had happened during the
tenure of previous doctors and writers. I would like to have seen what
she could have done with the character if some of the previous staff, and
    not Chinball, had been involved.

Is it even worse than the 13th doctor seasons?

Of the revival series, those have been my two favorite doctors, but I
also liked 12 once they got passed the first couple of episodes. His
stories did seem a lot darker, overall, than those of Tennant or Smith.

13 is where they started to lose me but, as I said in a previous post, I suspect that had a lot more to do with who was in charge and not to do
with the actress who played 13. That cast didn't have much to work with
when it came to stories. They might start out with what seemed like a
good story but then they'd spend too much time on some subplot and rush
    the ending to conclusion.

    Hiya,

Anyone else finding the new season of Dr Who disappointing?

It's been diminishing returns for me. I loved David Tennant, but thought
the writing was lackluster. Loved the writing for Matt Smith, but DT was
still the Doctor to me. Peter Capaldi, it wasn't until later that I
started appreciating his portrayals. I only watched one of the Jodie
Whittaker episodes, and haven't watched any of the new season. I guess
    I'm done.

My favorite has switched from DT and Rose Tyler to MS, Amy and Rory.

I have not watched much Dr Who but did tune in to the first episode of the 'new' doctor a week or so back watching it on Disney+

It didn't do much for me but then again it's been years since Tom Baker :)

Capaldi will always be my favorite. He had some dogs like Knock Knock and Sleep No More, but even with those, his portrayal was absolutely engaging.

I liked the older, cynical doctor - wondered what he'd done and seen
between he and Matt Smith. Wasn't he something like 900 years older?

    Hated the Sonic Shades.

Loved The Husbands of River Song. The look on River's face when he
whispers "hello, sweetie", and the culmination of their relationship
    (again) was wonderful.

I missed the Doctor, Amy and Rory. Got to like their dynamic.

Doctor #11 had lived over 900 years. He mentions that he's 900 years at one point, but that was before he spent over 300 years on Trenzilor. I think by the time 11 regenerated, he was pushing 2000 years.

    Hated the Sonic Shades.

I wasn't a big fan of the sonic being shades, like I'm not a big fan of the sonic now being something that looks like s silver tv remote. But I can say that Capaldi and his shades prompted me to by my own classic Ray Ban's like his. I still have them and wear them today. Had them for years now.

River Song was alway a great addition to the story. I love HoRS.

I loved how Rory was always Amy's first in her life and The Doctor was second.
