we've had how many decades of heterosexual relationships being
    depicted in
media and you want to say that the pittance of lgbt representation we
get now is too much? grow up

I feel like some of those hetero relationships are depicted with "TMI".
Those are the ones I have issues with, hetero or lgbt or otherwise.

I also find it a little difficult to believe a show I am watching where
an originally very "heteroly active" female character turns out to be gay,
and most of the cast introduced after that point turns out to be gay,
except for the lead character who has a thing for a ghost. I don't think
that properly depicts the actual make-up of society, even in a sci-fi
    show.

I don't have any issues with two people being depicted as a couple so
long as it is realistic and not TMI.

Wasn't bait. I prefer to think of it as a rational argument against overdoing an issue (in this case LGBT issues) in media.

The media likes to bandwagon and virtue signal.

good bait. sorry everybody else for initially falling for it

It's hard to avoid, they thrive on it.

I haven't been watching Discovery so no opinion from me on that show, I'm so behind on Star Trek I haven't made it past TNG. :)

On a different topic, I recently watched the movie The Fall Guy - I guess it is loosely based on the TV series from the 80s, though I never watched that series so I can't speak to how faithful it is. I've been finding that I am a big fan of Ryan Gosling, and this role was no exception - The Fall Guy was a really funny and enjoyable movie. The plot follows a stuntman (Ryan gosling) working on his ex-girlfriend's (Emily Blunt) film, only to find himself involved in a conspiracy. Lots of fun, lots of action!

in seriousness tho, i've enjoyed pretty much all Trek with the exception of Enterprise. couldn't make past season 1 of Picard but i've been told it picks up after it. i'm an outlier staunch Voyager fan :P

i get a lot of the criticism Discovery got in the first season, it did some pretty piss poor choices (we all remember the S1 Klingons) but i think once
it grew into its own story it became pretty classic Trek. do give it a shot when you can :)

now i'm waiting for the next season of Strange New Worlds...

I just see that on every show, every movie, they "force" the issue on the watcher - like you commented : .. to finally bring around something that has been around for decades but everyone called it a voodoo subject. I mean, I'm old enough to remember people loosing their minds when someone kissed someone on screen .. oh and then years later someone showed skin and they tried to make it a rated single X. I'm not old enough to remember live black and white shows (but have seen re-runs) where the wife in the marriage was working instead of staying at home and making meals - society about rioted.

As we start changing and evolving in society, Hollywood tries to make their changes all at once to make up for it. Most of us fans see it as being this WOKE state.

Only ISSUE I have is this (and fair warning, someone will not get it or will take offense to it, etc.):

Unless you were born a Hermaphrodite, you were born as a Male or a Female. Plain and simple. I do understand as I get older that this doesn't mean that is your sexual orientation at all - be as you are and live as you will. We will also start changing and understanding as well, but change has ALWAYS taken time for those who refuse to see it.

Figuring some things out in the first season and then having a great second season doesn't sound too unusual, I think? Seems like I've heard a lot of people had that opinion of TNG also.

now i'm waiting for the next season of Strange New Worlds...

I have so many Treks to catch up on! haha

I couldn't make it past the second episode of the first season. Since I'm out of Trek to watch (yes, including the animated series), I might give Discovery another shot.

The first two seasons were OK. I really wish they could make something like DS9 again.

Enterprise is worth watching just for young Jolene Blalock (T'Pol). She was hot and cool, like 7 of 9.

and that's fair! i can't change anyone's mind about it. all i can say is that as someone who really enjoys star trek as a whole and as a cultural
touchstone, i thought discovery was good. i hope you have a better time with
    it this time around!

and i'm excited Prodigy finally got picked up for season 2 :)

Which animated series? The original animated series, Lower Decks, or Prodigy?

I thought Discovery got better with season 2. Also, Strange New Worlds is an offshoot of Discovery, as the Enterprise under command of Captain Pike appeared in season 2 of Discovery (the last episode of Discovery season 1 had a teaser of Discovery meeting up with the Enterprise).

The original animated series from the 70s.
